[00:00–00:12]
[We are in Valle Argentera, in the province of Cuneo. Veronica Ruggieri and Angela Procida are inside the new FIAT Panda, driving along mountain roads. It is winter and the mountains are covered in snow.]
[00:12]
Veronica: Good morning Angela, how are you?
[00:14]
Angela: Very well, I can’t wait to find out what we’ll do today.
[00:17]
Veronica: You’ve probably seen the snow around you.
[00:18]
Angela: Of course.
[00:19]
Veronica: And do you like dogs?
[00:21]
Angela: I love them, a lot.
[00:23]
Veronica: Then today will be a nice surprise.
[00:25]
Angela: What an emotion!
[00:26–00:34]
[Aerial shot of the snowy landscape. The car stops and the girls get out.]
[00:34]
Veronica: Okay, we’ve arrived.
[00:39–00:42]
[Veronica pushes Angela’s wheelchair on the snow until they meet Fabrizio. Sled dogs harnessed to sleds are visible.]
[00:42]
Veronica: Here we are! Hi, nice to meet you, I’m Veronica.
[00:43]
Fabrizio: Hi, I’m Fabrizio.
[00:44]
Angela: Nice to meet you, I’m Angela.
[00:45]
Fabrizio: Hi, welcome.
[00:50]
Veronica: Have you seen the sleds?
[00:51]
Angela: Beautiful. I can’t wait, it’s my first time in the snow.
[00:54]
Fabrizio: Today you’re going to try sleddog, so we’ll do the activity with sled dogs. You’ll be on this bigger sled and we’ll attach eight dogs, while Veronica gets a smaller one with four dogs.
[01:06]
Veronica: Alone?
[01:08]
Fabrizio: Alone, of course.
[01:09]
Veronica: But can I trust the dogs?
[01:10]
Fabrizio: You must trust the dogs!
[01:11]
Veronica: Okay. Good, let’s start.
[01:13]
Fabrizio: Let’s go.
[01:14]
Angela: Let’s go, I can’t wait.
[01:18–01:28]
[Veronica and Angela each get on their sleds and are harnessed by Fabrizio. The dogs start running, pulling them across the snow.]
[01:28]
Angela: When I was five years old, I had a very serious accident. That day a part of me, my sister and my father, went away, and my way of seeing life changed completely.
[01:40]
Veronica: In what way?
[01:42]
Angela: In my relationship with myself and also with others.
[01:45]
Veronica: You couldn’t accept yourself?
[01:46]
Angela: Whenever I passed in front of a mirror, I would turn away. I couldn’t accept my body, and I couldn’t even accept this emotional depression, because I had so much energy to…
[01:57]
Veronica: To let out
[01:58]
Angela: To let out, exactly.
[02:00]
Veronica: And then you fell in love with sport.
[02:02]
Angela: The most beautiful moment of my life was my first encounter with water.
[02:08]
And it was my first love and also my first medal.
[02:10]
Angela: It was a very important switch, from having no dreams, no goals, to having the biggest dream an athlete can have, the Paralympics. Every day I woke up wanting to do everything I could to reach that dream.
[02:27]
Veronica: And now, do you set limits for yourself?
[02:28]
Angela: For me, there are no limits. Not in sport, not in everyday life, not in work or university life, because I am also a student.
[02:42]
Veronica: Has this day with the dogs, in the snow, inspired anything in you?
[02:44]
Angela: It made me want to start skiing.
[02:46]
Veronica: Ah, so we’re going in search of a new medal.
[02:48]
Angela: This is my new dream. Time will tell, we’ll see how it goes.
[02:53]
[Angela is pulled across the snow by the dogs, smiling.]
