The Autonomy program
Stellantis Autonomy is the program dedicated to the mobility of people with motor, sensory or cognitive disabilities. It offers personalized driving and transport solutions, specialist advice, and access to a network of centers and partners dedicated to adapting vehicles to individual needs.
The program is intended for people with disabilities, family members, caregivers and organizations that need accessible mobility solutions, both for independent driving and assisted transport.
Autonomy solutions are available across all Stellantis brands, including Fiat, Jeep, Alfa Romeo, Citroën, Peugeot, Opel, DS, Lancia and Fiat Professional.
Autonomy offers informational support on adaptable vehicles, adaptation solutions for driving and transport, dedicated mobility services and available benefits for people with disabilities, through a network of authorized partners and Mobility Centers.

Driving solutions allow the person with a disability to drive the vehicle. Transport solutions, on the other hand, allow the person to travel as a passenger, for example in a wheelchair.
Stellantis vehicles included in the Autonomy program can be purchased at all Stellantis dealerships. At these dealerhips, you can receive dedicated support both in choosing the vehicle and in managing the paperwork for benefits and adaptations.

All Stellantis vehicles are eligible for driving or transport adaptations for people with disabilities.
However, the choice of the most suitable model in terms of comfort, accessibility and practicality depends on the type of disability and the adaptations required. For this reason, a personalized assessment with a specialized converter is always recommended.
The different Stellantis brands offer vehicles with different characteristics in terms of size, interior configuration and body type. These differences can affect ease of access or compatibility with specific adaptations, but there is no brand that is absolutely “more accessible” than another. The choice depends on individual needs and on how the vehicle will be used.

Our driving solutions
Yes, it is possible to drive even with a disability, provided that the conditions established by the Local Medical Commission are met.
Among the most common solutions are manual accelerators and brakes, steering knobs, electronic controls and other devices designed to make driving easier according to the driver’s abilities. For a complete overview of all available driving solutions, consult the “Driving solutions” page.
All Stellantis vehicles can be fitted with certified devices approved by the Ministry of Transport” However, the choice of the most suitable model in terms of comfort, accessibility and practicality depends on the type of disability and the adaptations required.
No. Many devices are designed to be easily deactivated or removed, also allowing non-disabled drivers to use the vehicle normally, or enabling resale without difficulty.
Mobility Centers offer free support in identifying the solutions best suited to each person’s needs, allowing users to consult specialized staff and test their driving abilities through simulators as well. Alternatively, you can contact conversion partners directly to receive targeted advice based on individual needs. However, it is the Local Medical Commission that assesses and establishes which adaptations are required by law while driving.
To obtain a special driving license, it is necessary to undergo a fitness examination at the Local Medical Commission, present in every province.
The examination can be booked through the secretariat of the Local Medical Commission for driving licenses or through driving schools. During the assessment, the Commission evaluates fitness to drive on the basis of the documentation submitted and the person’s functional condition.
If the outcome is positive, a medical report is issued to obtain the driving license, valid for 6 months, indicating any mandatory adaptations to be installed on the vehicle. Within this period, it is possible to apply for obtaining or reclassifying the driving license at the Civil Motorization Office.
If obtaining the license for the first time, both the theoretical and practical examinations are required.
In the case of license reclassification (usually for those who already hold a license), only the practical driving test is required.
The final adaptations are reported on the back of the license by means of specific codes. At that point, the holder of the special license may drive, but only vehicles adapted with the necessary modifications and tested by the Civil Motorization Office.
The special license is generally valid for five years but may be subject to more frequent renewals based on the indications of the Medical Commission.
Yes. A driver who, after an examination by the Local Medical Commission, does not agree with the assessment expressed may request, at their own expense, a new medical examination at an RFI Territorial Health Unit (Italian Railway Network).
The appeal must be filed within 30 days of the refusal. If the medical assessment by the RFI Territorial Health Unit is more favorable, the driver may submit the new medical certificate to the Civil Motorization Office for review and for the possible modification or cancellation of the ruling issued on the basis of the previous certificate. x
The new favorable medical certificate issued by RFI must be submitted to the Civil Motorization Office within 120 days of receiving the withdrawal of the Local Medical Commission’s disputed medical certificate.

When purchasing a new vehicle, it must be converted and tested before registration. The Stellantis dealer usually connects the customer with one or more approved conversion partners allowing them to choose the most suitable solution.
Our transport solutions
Yes. There are conversions with ramps, lifting platforms and restraint systems to allow the wheelchair to access the vehicle and be transported safely.
Yes. The Autonomy program also provides conversions for vehicles intended for accessible taxis, social services or collective transport.
In many cases it is possible to purchase a vehicle that is already adapted, or to have the most suitable conversion installed before registration.
Mobility Centers
Mobility Centers are specialized facilities that support people with disabilities on the journey toward independent and accessible driving. Created by Stellantis, they aim to allow users to evaluate their driving abilities and any need for adaptations through a free information and guidance service. Within the Mobility Centers, it is possible to:
-assess motor abilities through driving simulators, with the support of specialized technicians and therapists;
-obtain supporting documentation to present to the Local Health Authority’s Medical Commission for the purpose of obtaining a special driving license;
-carry out driving tests with specialized instructors on vehicles equipped with adaptations suited to individual needs.

Yes, the consultation and assessment service offered by the centers is free of charge.
The driving simulator, called VCR (Verificatore delle Capacità Residue), is a tool used in Mobility Centers to assess a person’s motor, visual and cognitive abilities in relation to driving.
Through sensors and dedicated software, the simulator analyzes parameters such as acceleration and braking management, coordination and reaction times.
The system makes it possible to reproduce realistic driving conditions and become familiar with possible vehicle adaptations.
Depending on individual needs, it is possible to test different control modes, including traditional solutions and manual controls for managing the accelerator and brake.
At the end of the test, a summary report of the results is produced, which can be submitted to the Local Medical Commission as supporting documentation for the purpose of obtaining a special driving license.
Accessing Benefits
For the purchase of an accessible vehicle, tax benefits are available under the current regulations, in addition to commercial and financial initiatives and dedicated services offered by the Stellantis Autonomy program.
The main tax benefits granted to eligible people include:
– Reduced 4% VAT on the purchase of the vehicle and any adaptations (also for electric vehicles up to 150 kW)
– Full or partial exemption from vehicle tax, subject to current regional regulations
– Exemption from registration tax (IPT) for purchases or transfers of ownership of new or used vehicles (excluding people with sensory disabilities)
– 19% IRPEF deduction on the purchase cost and on major repair and maintenance expense

Benefits do not apply to quadricycles.
People with disabilities recognized under Italian law are entitled to the benefits, as well as, in some cases, family members who have the person with a disability as a tax dependent.
Benefits are granted only if the vehicles are used exclusively or primarily for the benefit of the people with disabilities.
Specific requirements depend on the type of disability and on the medical and tax documentation available.

In addition to tax benefits, Autonomy provides dedicated initiatives reserved for eligible customers, including:
– an additional 1% discount off the list price for Mobility Center users who have received a dedicated coupon
– an additional 2% discount on the list price for the purchase of Stellantis vehicles, combinable with promotions reserved for private customers;
– extended roadside assistance, with automatic extension from the 3rd to the 4th year after the expiration of the two-year contractual warranty, according to the services included in the Free To Go program;
– for eligible vehicles within the offer period, Stellantis Financial Services offers dedicated financing solutions. Adaptations can be included in the financing agreement, provided that their value does not exceed 70% of the vehicle’s sale price.

They are carefully selected to ensure they provide certified, safe solutions that are compatible with Stellantis vehicles, and they are responsible of installing the adaptations indicated by the Local Medical Commission, ensuring all solutions comply with current regulations and are tailored to the individual’s specific needs.

Among the most common are manual controls for accelerator and brake, modified or inverted pedals, special steering wheels and levers, swivel or sliding seats, wheelchair lifts, ramps and restraint systems.

The cost of a conversion varies depending on the type and complexity of the adaptations required. It is not possible to indicate a standard price, since each conversion is tailored to the individual. To obtain an accurate estimate, it is necessary to contact a specialized partner converter.
In some cases, it is possible to include the cost of the conversion in financing through Stellantis Financial Services, subject to the terms and conditions of current promotions.
In particular, the financed amount for the conversion must not exceed a set percentage of the vehicle’s purchase price.
