A volcanic experience for Vanni Oddera and Jacopo Gullà

The lava rock f Mount Etna provide the setting for a new adventure in the Storie da raccontare format. Here, Vanni Oddera meets Jacopo Gullà, a Paralympic motorcycle rider who, after losing a leg in a motorcycle accident, chose to return to the track with even greater determination. Among volcanic paths and mountain bike descents, the experience becomes the story of a spirit that refuses to give up and of a passion capable of turning difficulties into a new challenge to face.

[Shots of the Etna Park in Sicily. Jacopo Gullà and Vanni Oddera get into a Jeep and Jacopo takes the wheel.]

[00:10]

Vanni: Jacopo, how would you describe yourself in two words?

[00:12]

Jacopo: A guy who’s got everything he needs.

[00:14]

Vanni: What happened to your leg?

[00:15]

Jacopo: I lost it in a motorcycle accident, when a car cut me off coming out of a stop sign.

[00:21]

Vanni: And how do you experience motorcycles now?

[00:22]

Jacopo: On the track. I paradoxically became a para-athlete rider after the accident, and I live life between one braking point and the next.

[00:30]

Vanni: What drives you to push the throttle, in racing and in life?

[00:35]

Jacopo: Well, in racing it’s competing with myself, and in life, my son.

[00:39]

Vanni: It’s clear you’re passionate about motorcycles, but what about cars?

[00:42]

Jacopo: Absolutely. Today, the car is essential—it allows me to go anywhere, whenever I want, and above all wherever I want.

[00:51]

Vanni: What’s your biggest wish?

[00:52]

Jacopo: To normalize disability.

[00:54]

Vanni: I get it—I’ve been fighting for this for 14 years. What is life to you?

[00:59]

Jacopo: For me, life is ups and downs.

[01:02]

Vanni: Perfect—things look better from the top. So, are you ready for something very, very special?

[01:07]

Jacopo: I can’t wait.

[01:08–01:25]

[Jacopo and Vanni go downhill riding in the Etna Park, pedaling among volcanic rocks. Then the car is seen setting off again.]
